David Darling

David Darling Photographer

After studying in London for 4 years, David worked as a photographer in the foreign office for a year before going freelance. He built a studio on the banks of the river Thames in Greenwich from which he worked for the music business, mainly doing record covers and publicity contracts. It wasn’t long before he started to concentrate more on fashion and advertising, quickly becoming recognised as one of the UK’S leading fashion photographer’s. It was then he moved into a studio in Covent Garden, where he lived on a converted Dutch Barge on Cheyenne Walk and met his Danish wife Gitte – a make-up artist and stylist. They then lived in a farmhouse on the Scottish Borders near Hawick with their three children.

David was very passionate about his work and travelled the world several times over photographing the rich and famous, the poor and deprived and anything or anyone else that inspired him to focus his lens. It could be Gordon Brown to Christy Turlington one day and a Lulu Guinness Handbag the next. His client list was extensive and ranged from various leading fashion companies to PepsiCo and P&O Cruises. The latter years he worked continuously producing images for glossy brochures and various advertising campaigns.

David set up a company with his daughter Caja publishing large format canvas prints and high quality Art cards, starting with the famous Vivienne Westwood shoe images. British Airways bought the original images for their Art Collection and now hang in the first class lounge at JFK Airport New York. The Darlings now supply over 300 retailers including Harrods, Fenwick, Fortnum and Mason and the Victoria and Albert Museum. They also export to Scandinavia, France, Australia and Belgium.
