Daniel Stanford - Sea of Dunes

Artist’s Note

On the northeast coast of Brazil, a magical sandscape area appears almost like a mirage, yet the blue and green pools extend as far as the eye can see. One of the most mysterious natural wonders of the world has got to be “Lençois Maranhenses”, which means the bedsheets of Maranhäo.

It is a truly magical area on the globe where a terrestrial phenomenon occurs six months of the year. The blue lagoons fill with rain water and support marine life for half the year. The Dunes are made of clear quartz crystals that reflect the colour of the sun, yet remain cool enough to walk barefoot on at any time during the day. Like a series of private oval pools in an endless sea of 600 square miles that reaches out to the sea coast, delightful to swim as it to drink
